Born Mthobisi artwell Gumede AKA “Toi da Produca” started producing Hip Hop beats in 2007 with Fellow friend and school mate Andile”TrevorTrey” Sineke. Both Beatmakers decided to go into business together and start a production Company called Lovechild Productions. In the same year Lovechild productions in partnership with Allegiance (a production company owned by another of His school mate Mdu”Dj Lab”Mduduzi) went to work on their 1st project Titled “The Given” a mixtape which featured local acts from Durban. The Given Mixtape featured Mc’s such as Abdus, Ngqondo, Skye Wanda, Mic G, Aligater Mc and many more talented acts. Hand to Hand Distribution being the primarily way of selling the Given Mixtape was well received local and got Airplay on Major and community based Radio Stations such as uKhozi FM, Vibe FM, Gagasi 99.5 FM ext. Four Tracks from the Given Mixtape went on to feature in HYPE Magazine (a National Magazine dedicated to Hip Hop culture in South Africa). Toi da Produca produced one track on the The Given Mixtape called “Family Matters” which featured Ngqondo and his brother Verbalist. In the years that followed Toi da Produca has went on to feature on Numerous Mixtapes such as “The Fixtape-Abdus”, “Veladictorian-Skye Wanda”, Red Tape-Zakwe,Asylum of Fate-Topaz,10 tracks kwamanje-Da Nombika and many others as well as street singles like “Girl like Me-The Band,Sfiso noZoh-Dezza.Now packs with enough experience Toi da Produca is ready to release his own offering called “MY BEGININGS-a Tribute to the artists I’ve worked with”, which He entirely produces own his own.

Toi Da Produca: I live in Pinetown
4 the Kaos: How do you separate yourself from other Producers?
Toi Da Produca: Im more of a musical producer, making sure that everything I produce has melody and 9 out of 10 if you come to me as an artist looking for music I already have some kind of concept or hook to all my beats
4 the Kaos: Who influenced your style?
Toi Da Produca: in the states it’s that Detroit sound as well as a couple of producers like 9th wonder, Apollo brown, black milk, just blaze,kev brown,dilla and kanye. In eMzansi its AMU, TrevorTrey, Bass-siq, K-Master and Bluetooth
4 the Kaos: If you had to mention one production/track that you see as your best work, what would it be?
Toi Da Produca: The latest track I’m about to record with Raheem and Liquid KZN.
4 the Kaos: Who do you want to work with in the future?
Toi Da Produca: Driemanskap, kanyi, ben sharpa (basically the Pioneer unit roster), Muggz, Qba mothipa, AMU the list is endless I want to concur EMzansi first before I can start looking to work with people abroad.
4 the Kaos: Which artists inspired you too become involved with Hip Hop and what is your favourite album of all times?
Toi Da Produca: It was an unknown rapper(even now I don’t know his name )who was featured on Keith Sweat’s Hit Single” Twisted” from then onwards I was hooked. My favorite album(s) all tied as my number 1.Common-BE, Nas-Stilmatic, Jay-z-Blueprint.
4 the Kaos: How do you place yourself within the larger world of hip-hop
Toi Da Produca: I see myself as a seed within the larger world of hip hop ready to grow and mature into someone big enough to leave a mark. Hip hop has become such a big platform with so many opportunities locally and globally that it’s up to you as an independent artist on what you going to do about it.
4 the Kaos: Any solutions to some of the problems facing the hip-hop industry?
Toi Da Produca: Improvise, adapt and overcome. Inovation is key to the longevity of hip hop. If we constantly re-invent hip hop in new and exciting ways surely that guarantees that hip hop is going to be around for years (decades) to come.i cant answer for every hip hop artist out there in terms of how one should act in being a role model to his/her community can speak for myself and say one should be aware of their actions. Actions do speak louder than words.

Toi Da Produca: Shout out to Durban hip hop. Shout out to all the artists I’ve had the privilege to work with, the many people who I have worked side by side with.
